Rubber Compression Set · Seal Elasticity Evaluation

The QM38 compression set tester measures the compression set of rubber and polyurethane. A specimen compressed to a fixed thickness is held at constant temperature for a set time; the permanent set is calculated from the height change before and after the test, per ASTM D395 and ISO 815.

Compression-Set Tester
Rubber Elastic-Recovery Testing

The QM38 compression set tester, designed per ASTM D395/ISO 815, compresses a specimen to a defined thickness, holds it at constant temperature and measures the permanent deformation after unloading. Special steel with low thermal deformation, precision shims ±0.01 mm, platen surface flatness ±0.001 mm, for rubber, polyurethane and other elastomers.

From seal rings to cushion pads - whether rubber recovers after long compression directly affects sealing and cushioning performance. Compression set is a key index of rubber elasticity; precision shims keep the compression ratio consistent and platen flatness ensures even loading - an essential tool for rubber-formula R&D and QC.

Designed for rubber-elasticity evaluation - precision compression fixture plus constant temperature, ASTM D395 compression set.

FAQ

Answers to common questions about QM38 purchasing, delivery and service.

What scenarios is the QM38 compression set tester mainly used for? +

It measures compression set of elastomers such as rubber, polyurethane and O-rings: the specimen is compressed to a defined thickness and held at constant temperature for a set time, and the residual deformation after unloading is measured to rate elastic recovery - a core index for seal and elastomer selection.

What are the core specifications of the QM38? +

Per the specification table: platen material S45C chrome-plated, standard shims 9.5±0.01mm (dimensions customizable), platen size 200(W)x100(D)x20(H) mm (three-stage).

How are compression ratio and measurement accuracy ensured? +

Special-steel platens with minimal thermal deformation; precision shim resolution ±0.01mm, platen surface flatness ±0.001mm, with compression precisely set by shim thickness, ensuring a consistent compression ratio within a batch and repeatable post-unloading height-difference measurement.

Is a companion oven required for testing? +

Compression set requires holding at a defined temperature; the device is a compression fixture frame used with a constant-temperature oven such as the QM230/QM240, while the room-temperature method can run directly in the lab.

Which test standards are supported? +

Compliant with ASTM D395, ASTM D3574, JIS K6252, ISO 815, ISO 2285 and other rubber/flexible-foam compression-set test methods.

Which options can be customized? +

A dedicated O-ring compression kit, special multi-size platens and custom shims are supported, configured to specimen shape and compression-ratio requirements.

What is the lead time for standard models? +

Standard-model lead time is 3-8 weeks; custom platens and shims follow the contracted lead time agreed after confirmation.

How are certification and after-sales service secured? +

The instrument carries CE / ISO 9001 system certifications, and is calibrated and aged before shipment; after-sales includes 2 hours emergency response, on-site installation and commissioning by certified engineers, a full-machine 1-Year Warranty and lifetime software upgrades.
